Plants are amazing bio-geo-chemical machines. With nothing more than water and light a plant efficiently mines its substrate and the atmosphere for minerals, converts them into resources, and allocates those throughout its life cycle. All without a brain, a plant does those activities while adapting to the environment surrounding it, however the plant cannot evade harsh conditions like most other organisms. They can produce food, medicine, scents, energy, fibers, oils, building materials, and dyes with such a staggering variety that the potential is still unknown. Tapping into these processes and harnessing them is fascinating. In controlled environments we can maximize these processes. Understanding them completely and fully utilizing their potential is a challenge worth pursuing for a sustainable future.
